Definition
Registered proprietor, as the data uses it
The proprietor on the register is the legal owner of the title. It may be a company, a public body, an overseas entity or one or more individuals. MarketCode names the first three from the CCOD and OCOD datasets, and joins a company-numbered proprietor to Companies House for status, directors and persons with significant control, so a name on a title becomes an entity you can assess and a portfolio you can map.
A name search is a fuzzy substring match and returns a candidate set, not a portfolio; company names repeat across unrelated entities. A company number is an exact match. Individuals are not in the bulk registers, and naming one requires a per-title purchase this platform does not make.
