Ownership
CCOD and OCOD
HM Land Registry's two bulk datasets of titles owned by UK companies and public bodies (CCOD) and by overseas companies (OCOD), the source of MarketCode's ownership answers.
Also called: Commercial and Corporate Ownership Data, Overseas Companies Ownership Data, UK company ownership register.
Definition
CCOD and OCOD, as the data uses it
CCOD lists every title in England and Wales registered to a UK company, corporate body or public body; OCOD lists every title registered to an overseas company. Both are free of charge under HM Land Registry's own licence for the datasets and are published monthly with a change file. Together they cover the non-individual half of ownership.
MarketCode loads both, joins them to UPRNs and land parcels where the address allows, and reads them for every ownership question: who holds this title, what does this company hold, who owns the parcels a sourcing search returned. The polygon-to-title backfill that puts an owner on a land parcel covers about 44% of parcels, so a parcel with no proprietor means the join has not reached it, not that the land is unregistered.
