Turnover rate
Sales in a period as a share of the dwellings that could have sold; the liquidity measure, distinct from the raw count of sales, which measures market size.

Turnover rate, as the data uses it
A district with a thousand sales a year can be illiquid if it has eighty thousand homes, and a village with forty sales can be liquid if it has three hundred. Turnover is sales divided by stock, and it is the measure MarketCode ranks on by default because it is comparable across areas of different size.
It is exact at every grain, recomputed from counts rather than averaged. A twelve-month turnover and a three-month one differ by roughly four times, so the window is returned with every ranking. Areas with too few dwellings for a rate to mean anything are skipped by a minimum-stock threshold, because one sale in a two-dwelling district is a turnover of 0.5 and would otherwise top the table.
