Government Statistical Service codes identify areas independently of their names: E09000007 is Camden whether the council is renamed or not. The letter gives the country and the number the type, so E06 is an English unitary authority and W06 a Welsh one.
Most MarketCode tools take a name rather than a code, because the code is rarely what a person has to hand; the commercial rent index accepts either. Internally the name is bridged to the code and the code is what joins to ONS statistics, which is how the rent index can be checked against the official one authority by authority.
