H3 is an open hexagonal grid that tiles the world at sixteen resolutions. A resolution-8 cell covers roughly 0.74 square kilometres, about the size of a few streets, and every point on the map belongs to exactly one cell per resolution.
MarketCode uses H3 in two places. The map layers return stock and transaction density per cell, which draws well and does not follow postcode boundaries that were designed for delivering letters. The valuation model uses cells as one of its spatial features, so two properties in the same cell share local evidence. The density layer returns counts only: the hex cube's price column is populated on about 2% of cells, and a price heatmap from it would be mostly invention.
